Betting in the Philippines was current since the nineteenth century, and remains prevalent in the nation today. Currently, it takes on different legal and illegal types found nearly all over the archipelago. The government handles gambling through the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) which aims to regulate and operate games of chance, and also to create government funds, but in addition, there are several other public and private agencies that handles particular kinds of betting. Even before the Spanish colonization., gambling is thought to have been within the Philippines. Although there are no specific records when gaming was first practiced in the archipelago, it is possible that a few forms were introduced by the Chinese in the late nineteenth century.
